Apple Pay uses tokenization through its Secure Element, a dedicated chip in Apple devices that stores payment tokens in an isolated and secure manner.

Google Pay: Protection with Cloud Tokenization

Google Pay uses Cloud Tokenization infrastructure, which allows the token to be securely stored in the cloud, rather than relying on a physical chip in the device.

How it works:

  1. When you add a card, Google Pay requests a token from the issuing bank.
  2. Each payment generates a unique cryptographic code, ensuring that the actual card information is never shared with the merchant.
  3. Google Pay also integrates biometric authentication and two-step verification for added security.

According to Statista, Google Pay reached more than 150 million users in 2023, establishing itself as one of the most widely used digital payment platforms.

Samsung Pay: Tokenization and MST for greater compatibility

Samsung Pay combines tokenization and MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) technology, allowing its use even on payment terminals that do not accept NFC.

How it works:

  1. When the user adds their card, Samsung Pay converts it into an encrypted token.
  2. In each transaction, the token is sent along with a dynamic authentication code, ensuring that the data cannot be intercepted.
  3. Payments require biometric authentication or PIN.

According to Samsung, 70% of Samsung Pay users prefer this platform because of its compatibility with more payment terminals.
